AO2 - Thriller Opening: Production Planning

Ideas & Inspiration (Other Thrillers)
  • Se7en Thriller - Shocking, quick, several enigmas. This is the sort of thing our group would like to convey in our thriller opening.
Audience Ideas & Research

  • Haunting, screeching music to build tension.
  • Perhaps a blend of non-diagetic and diagetic sounds. Perhaps we could have it full of non-diagetic sounds.
  • Many openings use a blend of different shots to create enigmas, we would like this.
  • Thriller openings are tense due to the nature of their jumpy shot cuts.
  • Often, thriller openings contain some kind of twist to keep the attention of the audience.
Treatment/Plan
Suitable Location Images
Below are shots of possible locations and backdrops we'd like to use for our thriller opening.

A busy, yet lush looking school/academy/set of offices will be the setting for our thriller. We felt the town hall would be an ideal setting for the office.

With the idea of having no spoken diagologue or monologue, we have chosen to use signs and hand gestures to represent a lot of feeling and emotion.

Big, wooden doors create an old, spooky effect and if we choose to shoot our thriller opening at night, I feel we can make great use of the doors.

The head desk of an office where slightly weird occurances begin such as items falling off tables and shelfs and the movement of certain objects (see below).

Above is a magazine or book falling from the shelf, an idea that we want to include in our thriller.

Above is an object that appears to be moving along the table.
